ETC Corner

Susan Tatar, LCC’s employee transportation coordinator, arranged for Commuter Solutions to have an information table at their New Student Orientation event in August.  We provided information to over 100 new students on transit routes, carpooling, and obtaining their group pass stickers.
(Please let us know if you have information you would like to share with other ETCs.  We would love to hear from you!)

We encourage you to print and post these flyers and posters at your workplace to inform your employees of transportation options and regional road projects.

FREE GAS FOR CARPOOLING!

Commuter Solutions will be offering a $10 Shell Gas Card for the first 100 carpoolers to register in our ridematching database.

Why?  More commuters in the database willing to carpool, or add people to their carpool, means more and better matches for those looking for carpool partners.  And, we want to thank carpoolers for making the Smart Choice and being part of the "Commuter Solution."  You will be receiving an e-mail soon that will have a link to an application page for commuters who want to sign up for the free gas card.  We’d appreciate it if you’d forward that e-mail to your in-house mailing list.  To receive the card the applicant must meet one of the following criteria:

1
If they are already in our ridematching database and currently carpooling to work at least once a week; OR

2. If they are NOT in our ridematching database, but are carpooling at least once a week to work, they must register in our ridematching database; OR

3. If they are currently driving alone, and want to be in a carpool, they must register in our ridematching database and start carpooling to work at least once a week for one month.

DON’T MISS OUT ON YOUR TAX CREDIT OPPORTUNITY!

Did you know that by participating in LTD’s Group Pass Program (GPP) your organization is eligible for the Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC)?  The Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) state tax credit program offers tax credits (between 25 and 35 percent!) on your investment in most transportation-related expenses.  This is an easy way to lower the costs of the transportation benefits that you provide for your employees.  You could be saving over one-third of what you are now spending.

To receive your tax credit on Group Pass Program or other transportation options expenses, you must submit an application to the ODOE prior to the signing of your GPP contract renewal.  If you have any questions regarding the tax credit, please contact the Oregon Department of Energy at (800) 221-8035, visit their Web site, or contact our office at 682-6213.

SAVE THE DATE!

Commuter Solutions will be holding a luncheon for our Group Pass Partners’ Employee Transportation Coordinators at the Oregon Electric Station.  Please mark your calendar for noon on Wednesday, October 25, and watch the mail for your invitation!

BOOK YOUR TRANSPORTATION FAIR NOW!  It’s Free and Easy
You provide the space, we do all the rest.

We will come to your place of business to provide information on transportation options and trip planning.  We will promote your Group Pass and Emergency Ride Home benefit programs to your employees and assist them with carpool/vanpool matching, and transit and bike trip planning.  Call Tracy at 682-6213 for more information or to schedule your fair today!

IT’S FUN – IT’S FREE AND IT’S GREAT FOR BUSINESS!

Get ready for the 2006 Eugene Business Commute Challenge!  Encouraging employees to find another way to get to work leaves more parking spaces for customers, promotes employee fitness (for those who bicycle and walk), relieves traffic congestion in the streets (making it easier for customers and employees to get to local businesses), saves your employees money on gas, and assists Eugene businesses in becoming more sustainable.

 October 9 – 13: Car-Free Week
Wednesday, October 11: Report Your Success

Awards Ceremony Luncheon

Eugene Public Library – Bascom/Tykeson Room
Friday, October 13: at Noon

All participating businesses and their employees have an opportunity to win great prizes and awards.  The Eugene Business Commute Challenge, an award winning program, is sponsored by the City of Eugene, LTD, Commuter Solutions, PeaceHealth, and the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce.

For more information contact Cindy Clarke, transportation options coordinator for the City of Eugene, at (541) 682-5285, or e-mail: cindy.j.clarke@ci.eugene.or.us.

LTD TESTS EMX TRANSIT LANE
Lane Transit District staff, along with consultants and construction personnel, met on August 13 to test the new EmX transit lanes (pronounced “M-X”). The test examined the geometry of turning movements as well as movements in and out of the EmX stations. By all accounts the exercise was a success and yielded valuable information. The test results will assist staff and the design team to make minor changes at Hilyard Station to ensure an easier and more efficient approach to the station.

Further testing of software and operation tasks will begin in October.   Some testing may be with LTD’s existing articulated vehicles.  The EmX vehicle is expected to arrive around mid-October.  Soon after that, the public will begin to see the EmX vehicle on route as part of the testing and training schedule.  Service on EmX is scheduled to begin December 17, 2006.  Check out the photos and video of this inaugural drive along the Franklin corridor!

EMERGENCY RIDE HOME (ERH)

Beginning September 1, 2006, the Emergency Ride Home program will be included in all Group Pass Program contracts at no extra cost!  The Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program provides a free taxi ride for any employee who travels to work by bus, bike, carpool, vanpool or walking, and who needs a ride in a qualified emergency.  There is no cost to you or your employee, and administration of the program consists of distributing the Taxi Voucher at the time of the emergency.  Look for the ERH Program Overview and Agreement in your contract renewal information.

WORKING TOGETHER TO KEEP YOU MOVING!
