Gary Gillespie serves on LTD Board of Directors, Subdistrict 5 South Eugene
Governor Ted Kulongoski selected Eugene resident Gary Gillespie to serve on the Lane Transit District Board of Directors, and the State Senate confirmed Mr. Gillespie’s appointment September 29, 2009. In his application, Mr. Gillespie stated, “Achieving an appointment to the Lane Transit District Board will accomplish a long-held goal of mine and will allow me another venue with which to expand my level of service to my community, region, and the State of Oregon.” Mr. Gillespie took part in a Board strategic planning session in October, and officially begins his term in January 2010.
Mr. Gillespie is a library assistant for the City of Eugene and is currently the president of the Oregon American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 75. A 32-year resident of Lane County, Mr. Gillespie is a daily transit rider and a weekly user of Amtrak. He has an extensive background in citizen involvement, which includes serving as president of two Eugene neighborhood associations; serving on the City of Eugene Citizen Involvement Committee and Diversity Committee; and serving on the Metropolitan Policy Organization’s Citizen Advisory Committee. Mr. Gillespie also has served in a volunteer role as a member of Alternative Work Concepts’ Board of Directors.
