Welcome to Smart Ways
to School!

The Smart Ways to School program offers free services to help students walk, bike, carpool, or ride a bus to/from school. These services improve student safety, help students be more active, reduce traffic around schools, decrease fuel consumption, and improve air quality.

The program serves families of K-12 students enrolled in public and private schools in the Eugene-Springfield area.

Hey, Parents!
How did you get to school when you were a kid? Did you walk? Take a bus? Ride your bike?

When today's parents were children, most of them traveled to school by walking, bicycling, or riding the school bus. These days, many children are being driven to school. Recent nationwide research has found that more than 50 percent of children travel to school by car.

This can create traffic congestion and safety concerns at schools. It also contributes to air pollution and a less active lifestyle for children. There are various reasons for this change, including limited school bus service and safety concerns for unaccompanied or unsupervised children. But there also are solutions for these situations. Check our travel options section to see which solution fits your family!

The free pass program that enables students in grades 6 through 12 to ride LTD free will return this fall beginning September 1!
