Feds Extend Face Mask Requirement Through April 18

March 10, 2022

The Federal Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) has extended the face mask requirement for passengers traveling aboard public buses, trains, and airplanes through  Monday, April 18, 2022. The current TSA mandate was set to expire on Friday, March 18, 2022. Today’s TSA announcement conflicts with the state of Oregon’s decision to lift the face mask requirement statewide on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

“We understand it will be a hassle for some people to remember to wear a face mask on the bus when it is no longer required in stores, offices and so on in Oregon,” said Pat Walsh, Lane Transit District’s Marketing and Communications Director and Public Information Officer.  “LTD is required to follow federal health and safety mandates. For another month, the LTD team and its passengers will need to wear a face mask covering their nose and mouth aboard the District’s buses and at its stations.”

Walsh added, “We ask everyone to be patient and respectful with each other as well as with the LTD staff and bus operators as we navigate face mask wearing a little while longer.”
“Exemptions to the face mask requirement for travelers under the age of two and those with certain disabilities, as well as civil penalty fines, will also remain in place. To learn more about LTD’s reasonable modification policy, click here.
