The fourth annual statewide Oregon Drive Less Challenge, spearheaded by Point2point at Lane Transit District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation, kicks off on Saturday, October 1. The two-week Challenge, running October 1-15, challenges commuters to explore fun, fit, planet-friendly travel options such as biking, busing, walking, and carpooling.

While the Challenge starts on Saturday, October 1, a kickoff party will be held at Oakshire Public House on Sunday, October 2, from 2 – 4 pm. The public event will include free bike tune ups, free bike valet parking, music, and prizes. Food will be available for purchase at Navarro's Latin Creole and the Sammitch Food Trucks. All guests will receive a raffle ticket for a prize drawing of a $100 gift card to REI, $100 gift card to Arriving by Bike, or a $100 gift card to the Oregon Electric Station.

Participants who register and log their trips at DriveLessConnect.com, are eligible for gift cards and prizes courtesy of sponsors: GenZe, Enterprise Carshare, and Arriving by Bike. Each logged trip yields participants another entry in the prize drawing. In addition to registering and logging trips, participants can download useful resource materials, including a free trial ride bus pass, from the E-Kit on the Challenge website.

Last year’s Drive Less Challenge was a resounding success. Oregonians from across the state logged more than 755,000 non-drive-alone miles. In Lane County alone, participants logged 119,857 miles representing a savings of 85,307 pounds of CO2 and 4,303 gallons of gasoline. This year, thousands of Oregonians across the state are anticipated to participate in the fourth annual Oregon Drive Less Challenge in an effort to break last year’s record numbers.
