The results of the 2017 Business Commute Challenge are in and this year’s participation broke a record! There were more people participating in the challenge this year than last year — 2,824 people participating from 240 organizations.

Over 100,000 miles were saved through commuting, nearly 100,000 pounds of CO2 were kept from our air and over 150,000 calories were burned by participants.

This is the seventh year that Point2Point/Lane Transit District (LTD) partnered with Central Lane MPO to sponsor the annual 2017 Business Commute Challenge. The challenge was held last week, May 13 – 19th.

The Business Commute Challenge is a friendly competition between businesses and other workplaces to see who can get the most employees to walk, bike, bus, carpool or telework during the week of the event. The workplace that has the highest participation wins bragging rights and great prizes for individuals.

Some of the top prizes include a fishing trip, a commuter bike and a bike cargo trailer with many more prizes awarded based on how many days a person participates in the challenge. In addition to LTD/Point2Point, sponsors of this year’s challenge include the City of Eugene, the City of Springfield, Arriving by Bike, Burley, Hutch’s Bicycles, Collin’s Cycle Shop and Paul’s Bicycle Way of Life.

Team winners are listed below and prizes will be awarded tonight at a wrap up with a party at Sweet Cheeks Winery Tasting Room, located at the 5th Street Market.
