Why did LTD change its policy about what riders can bring on the bus?
Safety is LTD’s top priority. That’s why LTD regularly gathers feedback from riders, members of the community, and LTD staff to assess common issues and identify solutions. Establishing a clear definition of which carry-on items are allowed on the bus is one outcome of these conversations. LTD’s goal with this rule change is to make the bus safer, more comfortable, and a better experience for all riders.
What can I bring on board the bus?
Wagons
No wagons, please. The aisle and doorways must be kept clear for the smooth entry and exit of passengers.
Wheeled Carts & Totes
Only two- or four-wheeled carts that do not exceed 18 inches in width, 18 inches in depth, or 30 inches in height are permitted, excluding wheels and handles.
Strollers
Unfolded strollers containing a child are allowed. Strollers without a child should be collapsed. Large and double-wide strollers are not practical on buses, so small foldable strollers are recommended. Please make sure your stroller doesn’t block the aisle or doorway.
Luggage, Shopping Bags, Backpacks & Packages
These items must fit in the rider’s lap, be clean and not create a sanitary issue such as a leaking bag.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Mobility Devices
The ramps on buses can hold a wheelchair or scooter at least 30 inches wide and 48 inches long, weighing at least 600 pounds when occupied.
Bikes
On a fixed-route bus, the bike is stored outside on a rack at the front of the bus. On an EmX bus, bring the bike inside and secure it on a bike rack.
Food & Drinks
Eating is not allowed on buses. You may bring food and drinks on board in closed containers.
Pets
At LTD, we honor the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and welcome service animals to travel along with us. All animals riding the bus are expected to behave well, with no barking, biting, agression or accidents.
LTD is committed to providing services that are accessible and help maintain independence for passengers. People with disabilities may request a change or modification to a policy, practice, or procedure if it allows them to have equitable access to LTD programs, services and activities. While there is no guarantee, LTD will review requests and if reasonable, they will be accommodated. To request a modification or to find out more, contact LTD Customer Service at 541-682-5555.
