The Business Commute Challenge Starts Saturday

The 2015 Business Commute Challenge (BCC) starts Saturday, May 9 and runs through Friday, May 15. For one week each year, local businesses and their employee teams participate in a friendly competition to see which business can get the most of their employees to walk, bike, bus, carpool, or telework for the week of the event.

The goal is to encourage employees to try alternative ways to get to work other than driving alone in order to reduce traffic congestion, improve health, and reduce Co2 in our region.

The BCC has multiple events during the week of the challenge for participants to enjoy.

Monday, May 11- Eugene Poker Walkabout: Participate in the Eugene BCC Poker Walkabout from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm., beginning and ending at the Downtown Athletic Club (999 Willamette St.).Visit several local stops to collect playing cards for the best poker hand and enjoy appetizers.

Tuesday, May 12 - Bike Day: Take a ride to the DeFazio Foot Bridge for some morning refreshments and a free bike tune-up by Arriving by Bike.

Wednesday, May 13 - Transit Day: Stop by the LTD Next Stop Center at 1099 Olive Street to enjoy coffee, breakfast treats, and spin the wheel for prizes. The Early registration winner, Northwest Community Credit Union will be taking their turn at driving an LTD bus through a course at the LTD Glenwood facility from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Thursday, May 14 – Springfield Poker Walkabout: Participate in the Springfield BCC Poker Walkabout from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., beginning and ending at NEDCO/Sprout (418 “A” Street). Visit several local stops to collect playing cards for the best poker hand, and grab some lunch.

Friday, May 15 - Bike Day: Celebrate National Bike to Work Day by stopping by to see the City of Springfield and the BCC Bike stop on the EWEB Path (at 5th St.) between 4:00 p.m. –  6:00 p.m. Take a ride, get a free bike tune-up, and enjoy refreshments.
