Road construction is under way during daytime hours on Charnelton Street between West 6th and 8th Avenues. Charnelton Street will be closed to through-traffic and on-street parking, however West 6th and 7th Avenues will be open to normal travel and West 8th Avenue will be open with one lane of travel. All businesses are accessible and customers can walk in from nearby on-street parking. There also are several City of Eugene parking garages in the vicinity. After crews repave Charnelton Street north of West 8th Avenue, they will shift to the portion between West 8th and 11th Avenues. LTD expects the Charnelton roadwork to take approximately 2-1/2 months.
LTD intends to begin nightime road construction on West 7th Avenue, between Garfield Street and Chambers Streets, in early March. Note that construction information is subject to change.
Tree removal is nearly complete along the route east of Garfield Street. Learn more about how the project will plant 200 more trees than are removed, and will provide the new trees with more room to grow in better soil. See the tight-space conditions and sidewalk damage of trees prior to removal. A postcard was mailed to those within one-half mile of the West Eugene EmX route. Logs from the removed trees will become wildlife habitat in local wetlands and lumber will be donated to BRING Recycling. Wood chips and smaller branches for firewood were made available to the public at several locations in Eugene. Utility relocation continues at various sites along the route east of Garfield Street.

New Street Trees!
On Saturday, December 6, 2014, more than 45 community volunteers planted 55 new street trees in Eugene through a partnership between LTD and Friends of Trees. The partnership is part of the West Eugene EmX project landscape improvements that will increase the number of trees adjacent to the West Eugene EmX corridor, and provide the new trees with more room to grow in better soil conditions. Several species of large canopy trees were planted by the enthusiastic volunteers comprised of LTD board members and employees, UO and high school students, City of Eugene employees, West Eugene EmX project staff, and other Friends of Trees supporters.
The new trees were planted adjacent to West 6th and 7th Avenues between Chambers and Lincoln Streets. During the event, several adjacent property owners thanked the volunteers for the new street trees. LTD compliments Friends of Trees for a very well-organized event, and thanks all the volunteers who gave their time and energy to our community. Photo, Video, and Traffic Simulations
Photo simulations show "before" and "after" images of several sites along the West Eugene EmX route.
Video simulations show images of EmX traveling in portions of the route (no sound).
Visual simulations (no sound) demonstrate how traffic and EmX will flow along the route after the project is completed. These simulations use state-of-the-art modeling and are based on actual traffic and pedestrian counts measured during afternoon peak flow.
