Construction

Tree removal is under way along portions of West 6th and 7th Avenues and Charnelton Street on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Temporary traffic restrictions will be in effect as needed for safety. Learn more about how the project will plant 200 more trees than are removed, and will provide the new with more room to grow in better soil. See the tight-space conditions and sidewalk damage of existing trees. This postcard was mailed to those within one-half mile of the West Eugene EmX route. Wood chips from the removed trees are available to the public at several locations in Eugene.

Utility relocation continues to progress along the route east of Garfield Street.

Road construction is expected to begin in late February or early March on Charnelton Street and on West 7th Avenue, between Garfield Street and Chambers Streets. Road construction will occur by day, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., on Charnelton Street, and by night, 7 p.m.-7 a.m., on the rest of the EmX route. LTD will provide advance notice of planned road construction. Note that the schedule is subject to change.

New Street Trees!

On Saturday, December 6, 2014, more than 45 community volunteers planted 55 new street trees in Eugene through a partnership between LTD and Friends of Trees. The partnership is part of the West Eugene EmX project landscape improvements that will increase the number of trees adjacent to the West Eugene EmX corridor, and provide the new trees with more room to grow in better soil conditions. Several species of large canopy trees were planted by the enthusiastic volunteers comprised of LTD board members and employees, UO and high school students, City of Eugene employees, West Eugene EmX project staff, and other Friends of Trees supporters.

The new trees were planted adjacent to West 6th and 7th Avenues between Chambers and Lincoln Streets. During the event, several adjacent property owners thanked the volunteers for the new street trees. LTD compliments Friends of Trees for a very well-organized event, and thanks all the volunteers who gave their time and energy to our community. Photo, Video, and Traffic Simulations

Photo simulations show "before" and "after" images of several sites along the West Eugene EmX route.

Video simulations show images of EmX traveling in portions of the route (no sound).

Visual simulations (no sound) demonstrate how traffic and EmX will flow along the route after the project is completed. These simulations use state-of-the-art modeling and are based on actual traffic and pedestrian counts measured during afternoon peak flow.
