How To Ride Guide

Safety First! Stop and look both ways before crossing the road along the EmX line. At some locations, EmX operates in the opposite direction of other traffic.

Pedestrians. Wear light-colored clothing or carry a flashlight, especially during early-morning and evening hours, and when it’s rainy.

Fares. Riding EmX requires a fare. Any standard LTD bus pass or Day Pass is a valid fare on EmX. However, if you don't have a pass and you are starting your trip on EmX, you will need to use the ticket machines on the EmX platforms. Read more...

Stops. EmX will stop at all stations except at Glenwood Station and Lexington Station. To request a stop at these stations, push the stop button at the wheelchair bay or on one of the vertical bars located near the doors. Know Before You Go. Plan your trip. Check the Rider’s Digest for the EmX schedule and connecting bus schedules. Visit ltd.org or call LTD Customer Service.

Boarding:

  • Please allow passengers to get off the vehicle before boarding.
  • Seniors and people with disabilities are encouraged to enter through the middle doors.
  • Seating in the front of the vehicle is reserved for seniors and people with disabilities.
  • If you need a ramp to bridge the distance between the platform and the vehicle, please notify the operator.

How to Load Your Bike on the EmX

1. Check to see if there is room.
As the EmX approaches, scan the bus to see if there is room on board. Up to three bikes are permitted on the vehicle. If it is too crowded to board safely, you will need to wait for the next bus.

2. Let other riders board first.
Wait for other riders to exit and enter the bus before you board with your bike.

3. Board through the door with the bike symbol.
Designated bike spaces are located inside the left rear door of each EmX vehicle. Only board EmX through the doors displayed below:

If other riders are occupying the area displaying the bike symbol, you may politely request that they move from the area so that you can store your bike.

Important Reminders
Bikes are allowed on EmX only if there is room, so if all bike spaces are full or the EmX is too crowded to board safely, you must wait for the next EmX vehicle. Consider taking your trip before or after rush hour, parking your bike at the station, or using a compact folding bike instead.

Always yield priority seating areas to seniors and people with disabilities.

No part of your bike should block the stairwells or aisles.

Maintain control of your bike and take care not to brush it against others. Do not use a kickstand. Keep your bike as clean as possible.

If you have a collapsed folding bike, you may store it under your seat. Don't block the aisles with your collapsed bike.

Children under the age of 12 bringing bikes on EmX must be accompanied by an adult.

Always walk your bike in station areas, transit centers, and pedestrian corridors.

We’re Accessible!

EmX vehicles are designed to make boarding faster and easier for everyone.
Design features include:

  • Accessible stations
  • Station platforms at the same height as the vehicle
  • Ramps to bridge the gap between the vehicle and the platform
  • Two wheelchair bays located at the front of each vehicle (Priority for front seats is given to seniors and
people with disabilities. One wheelchair bay is forward-facing and the other bay is a rear-facing bay.)
  • Raised-line Braille maps for each station are available at LTD Customer Service at the Eugene Station.

Riding EmX Using a Mobility Device

  • Enter and exit through the middle door.
  • Let the operator know if you will need the ramp when boarding and deboarding.
  • Board the vehicle and position yourself in the wheelchair bay.
  • Securement in the forward-facing bay can be accomplished independently or with the assistance of the operator. There is a passive securement system for the rear-facing bay.
  • An announcement will keep you informed as you approach each station, including which side of the vehicle to exit.
  • If you are unable to push a stop button (Glenwood or Lexington Stations only), tell your operator.
  • Need training or want to practice boarding the EmX vehicle? Contact Alternative Work Concepts at 541-345-3043.

Parents with Strollers

Children are welcome in strollers on EmX as long as the stroller does not block the aisle. If the aisle is blocked, you may be asked to fold and stow your stroller.
