Snow & Ice Detours

Safety is LTD’s first priority, and adjustments to service can happen during snow and ice conditions to keep riders and operators safe.

Be prepared for winter weather before it arrives by following these tips:

  • Follow LTD on social media for winter weather tips and service alerts.
  • Subscribe to text alerts you can stay in-the-know on-the-go about detours and delays. Use the online subscriber form so to subscribe to Service Alerts for specific bus routes.
  • Download the Umo app and turn notifications on for service alerts.
  • Look for the blue snowflake symbol next to the routes you use in the Rider’s Guide and at LTD.org . Routes with the snowflake symbol are more likely to be affected by winter weather.
  • Stand back from the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop; buses may slide sideways in slippery conditions. Give the operator plenty of notice when signaling for your stop.
  • Buses might not be able to pull all the way over to the curb because of snow and slush. Once the bus is stopped, riders may need to step into the road.
  • Use handrails when getting on and off the bus. Snow can accumulate on the stairs and in the aisle, making them slippery.
  • If an EmX stop is blocked by snow or ice, LTD will make every effort to use an alternate stop as close as possible to the original stop.
  • Expect delays. Chained buses can’t travel more than 25 mph.
  • Dress warmly.
  • Make sure you’re visible.

Stay informed, stay cool, and enjoy a safe summer with the following resources:

  • Know the signs of heat-related illness and how to prevent it.
  • Find a place to cool down . LTD does not turn people away who are riding to a designated cooling space. Tell the bus operator you’re going to a designated cooling space and you will not be charged fare.
  • Subscribe to Lane County’s Emergency Alerts to get notifications to your phone about extreme weather, evacuations, and other emergency information.
