Lane Transit District’s (LTD) Phyllis Loobey Operations Command Center (OCC) is officially open. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to improve safety and efficiency for LTD’s far-reaching network.
The OCC represents an $11 million investment by the Federal Transit Administration, and its design demonstrates LTD’s commitment to being a responsible steward of public funds. Chief Executive Officer Jameson Auten said, “These dollars are not LTD’s dollars, these dollars are your dollars.” The project was guided by LTD’s goal of improving safety and operational effectiveness for riders, employees, and the wider community. Auten added, “This building isn’t just bricks, glass, and mortar, it’s the future of transit in Lane County. The OCC is the backbone of a system that serves thousands daily—from students and older adults to teachers and nurses.” By centralizing critical functions, LTD further ensures reliable and sustainable service for decades to come
The new facility features advanced dispatch technology to responsibly and effectively use LTD’s camera network on buses and stations, improving coordination between LTD’s Operations and Public Safety departments and enhancing safety for riders and bus operators.
This project contributes to the ongoing revitalization of Glenwood, creating jobs and supporting infrastructure investment. LTD remains committed to being a good neighbor and a driver of economic development. Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon said, “Today marks more than a grand opening, it’s a reflection of our shared investment in Glenwood’s future and in the people who rely on public transportation every day.”
The OCC is named after LTD’s second general manager (1979-2000) and first female leader, Phyllis Loobey. Her dedication to accessibility and community remains part of the organization’s core values today.
