Riders on the Downtown Loop and Routes 11, 17, 18, and 36 will hear automatic announcements for every stop as part of our new pilot project.
What Are Audible Stop Announcements?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates that transit agencies must announce certain major stops and intersections, as well as any stop if requested. These audible stop announcements can be made by either the bus operator or a voice recording system.
Usually, only major stops and transfer points are announced on the bus, but during this pilot, every stop on these routes will be announced automatically.
Why the Change?
We were meeting these minimum requirements, but we want to ensure full accessibility on our system, so we’re making this adjustment. Our goals are to improve accessibility for riders with visual impairments, support riders using mobility devices, including those secured in rear-facing positions, and enhance overall awareness for all riders.
What’s Next?
We’re trying this out to see how it works before considering a system-wide rollout. Have you heard the new announcements yet? Let us know what you think!
Audible announcements for all stops on the Downtown Loop started on February 1. Announcements on Routes 11, 17, 18, and 36 will roll out in March 2026.
