LTD: Updated Fare Validation Coming to EmX
Lane Transit District (LTD) has installed a new fare validation program on its rapid transit system, EmX [“Em-X”]. The deployment of the new technology is one part of LTD’s overhaul to its technology infrastructure.
To validate their fare, riders will have a few options:
· Scan their tap card or a QR code on the Umo app as they board EmX, just like on a neighborhood bus.
· At high traffic stations (see below), riders can validate their fare with the Umo app at QR code signs before they board. This will expedite the boarding and unloading processes.
“LTD is funded by employers and employees, as well as state and federal sources. This new tech will allow LTD to be a better steward of public funding,” said Joe McCormack, LTD’s Chief Development Officer. “EmX is incredibly popular, transporting a high volume of people everyday. Our riders can expect more efficient boarding, increased fare checks to ensure a safe environment, and an overall reduction in fare evasion.”
In addition to Eugene and Springfield stations, the following are LTD stations with the QR code signs: Agate, Centennial, Commerce, Dads’ Gate, High Street, Hilyard, Monroe, Seneca, and Walnut.
EmX connects west Eugene, downtown Eugene, the University of Oregon, downtown Springfield, and the Gateway and RiverBend areas. This rapid transit bus is the backbone of LTD’s service, carrying 12,000 riders a day and connecting to other bus routes, as well as Park & Ride locations and bicycle-pedestrian pathways.
