Climate Action Policy
Date Created:
June 2020

Lane Transit District is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for the Eugene-Springfield region.
This page provides information about LTD’s adopted Climate Action Policy, greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting efforts, and progress toward reducing emissions through transit service, fleet investments, and regional mobility initiatives. The work is guided by LTD’s Board-adopted climate goals and periodic greenhouse gas inventory reporting.
What will this project do?
LTD’s Climate Action work helps guide efforts to:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from LTD operations
- Increase transit’s role in reducing community-wide emissions
- Eliminate fossil fuels from the bus fleet by 2035
- Support sustainable transportation choices
- Evaluate emerging technologies and strategies that support long-term climate goals
The work also establishes a framework for measuring progress through periodic greenhouse gas inventory reporting.
Budget
This effort is implemented through existing planning, fleet, facilities, and capital investment programs. Future climate-related projects and studies are considered through LTD’s normal budgeting and planning processes.
Outcomes & Community Impact
Public transportation helps reduce emissions in multiple ways, including cleaner operations, increased transit ridership, reduced vehicle miles traveled, and support for more compact development patterns.
LTD’s greenhouse gas inventories help track both operational emissions and the broader climate benefits that transit provides to the community.
