Be Aware: Fraudulent Website Using "Lane Transit”
On July 14, 2023, Lane Transit District (LTD) was made aware of a fraudulent website using the name Lane Transit and claiming to be headquartered at the District’s Glenwood offices.
A prompt investigation determined the website is a front for an online fraudulent pay-for-shipping scheme. LTD promptly took the following remedial steps: (1) reported the site to the FBI Cybercrime Unit and the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Fraud Division; (2) made a fraud report to Google for delisting the site in Internet searches; (3) through LTD’s legal counsel, sent takedown demands to the website host provider.
Unfortunately, LTD’s options to have the site removed are limited, given the anonymous identity of the website owner. The District will continue to make every reasonable effort to have the site taken down.
People who have been defrauded and lost money to the scammers can file a complaint using the FBI Cybercrime Unit webpage, located here: Internet Crime Complaint Center(IC3) | Home Page. People who file a complaint will be prompted to provide details such as affected bank account numbers, check numbers, and so on.
