Lane Transit (LTD) has signed a six-year, $2.8 million contract with Delerrok, Inc., a California-based electronic fare system vendor for the equipment and service necessary to integrate an electronic fare payment option for LTD bus riders later thisyear.
“LTD has begun working with Delerrok representatives on the details for implementing the electronic fare system,” said Aurora Jackson, LTD’s General Manager. “We are excited to brin gthis new service option to riders across the district.”
The new electronic fare system will allow riders boarding an LTD bus to wave a prepaid “smart” pass or a smart phone app in front of an electronic validation box to pay their fare. LTD will continue to accept cash for fares as well.
“So far the response about electronic fares has been positive,” said Cosette Rees, LTD’s Director of Customer Service and Specialized Services. “LTD and Delerrok will work to ensure outreach and education initiatives are proactive in assisting the community transition to the new program smoothly.”
The new electronic fare system will make riding the bus more convenient by making boarding time faster, ensure fare accountability, and provide anonymized ridership data to be used for transit service planning purposes only.
