Bus Only Lanes Painted Red for Safety

June 16, 2023

Motorists and bicycle riders are asked to be on the lookout for workers painting select areas in Bus Only lanes red throughout the EmX System.

EmX passengers should look for signs at affected stations directing them to the closest alternative bus stop. LTD is sending more information via its Service Alerts Twitter feed. Passengers can learn more about how to receive Service Alerts at LTD.org.

Painting the Bus Only lanes red more clearly shows drivers where they can and cannot drive, stop, and turn. The enhancement, including additional signage in some areas, is expected to make driving safer on these streets and intersections traveled by buses, personal and commercial vehicles, and bicycles. Painting the lanes red is weather and supply-chain dependent but is expected to start in the next several days. Once the work begins, it should be completed during the work day over a few weeks.

In the meantime, painting select Emx Bus Only lanes red is part of the work Brown Contracting began earlier this month to remove and repaint Bus Only and turn legends in all EmX lanes. This work continues daily from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m.

The money to fund the $2 million safety enhancement project comes from 5307 and Formula funds, State Lottery Bond funds as well as an LTD general fund match.

More information about bus lane painting project is available at LTD.org.
