Feds Require Face Masks Through April 18

March 9, 2022

Note: a previous version of this news release indicated that the federal mask mandate was set to expire on March 18. The release has been updated with the most current guidance, which states that the mandate will expire on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Federal mandates require passengers using public transportation, including Lane Transit District (LTD) buses, to continue to wear face masks covering their nose and mouth through Monday, April 18, 2022, when the federal face mask requirement is set to expire.

“The Federal face mask requirement for passengers riding buses and for people on LTD property overrides the state of Oregon’s decision to lift face mask requirements statewide on Saturday, March 12,” said Pat Walsh, LTD’s Marketing and Communications Director and Public Information Officer.  “We don’t know for certain if the federal face mask requirement will be allowed to expire, but as soon as we know the decision, we will keep people informed through social and traditional media as well as other communication channels.”

Exemptions to the face mask requirement for travelers under the age of two and those with certain disabilities, as well as civil penalty fines, will also remain in place. To learn more about LTD’s reasonable modification policy, click here.
