LTD Opens Santa Clara Station Feb. 7

January 25, 2021
LTD’s Santa Clara Station will begin operations on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.  The new station replaces the aging River Road Station that has served the Santa Clara and River Road neighborhoods for 39 years.

“The completion of the Santa Clara Station is a community investment that provides more access for Santa Clara and River Road residents to travel throughout the District by bus,” said Aurora (AJ) Jackson, LTD’s general manager. “We want to thank the neighborhoods for their important input that helped to inform the project and for their patience during the past year of construction.”

Paid for with a combination of federal, state, and local funds, the Santa Clara Station includes six (6) bus bays, accommodating RideSource, and hosts 55 parking spaces and 3 electric vehicle charging stations at the adjacent Park & Ride. Additional amenities include secured bike parking, covered station platforms, and a small building for employees to take breaks.
The Santa Clara Station was designed by local architects Rowell Brokaw to meet several key goals that were established with neighborhood input:

  • Safety for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and buses
  • Security improvements in lighting, surveillance, and monitoring
  • Traffic flow improvements for motorists traveling along River Road and Green Lane
  • Community enhancement for residents, existing businesses, and future economic development

LTD staff will be at the Santa Clara Station on Sunday, Feb. 7, to answer questions and support passengers using the new location.

The River Road Station will no longer be in service effective February 7 but will continue to be owned and maintained by LTD. Built in 1982, River Road Station consists of three (3) bus bays. The site is often congested along River Road leading to the on and off-ramp to the Randy Papé Beltline Highway More information about Santa Clara Station HERE.
