More than 2,000 area commuters and 250 teams will compete in the Business Commute Challenge (BCC) to find out who can walk, bike, carpool or bus the most to work for one week.

“The BCC creates a friendly rivalry between employers, May 14 – 20, to help support sustainable and active transportation,” says Cammie Harris, BCC Coordinator. “It's also a great way for employees to try out new travel options for their commute.”

Employer teams with the greatest percentage of commuting by means other than driving alone, win. Individuals participating in the challenge can also win great prizes like a Party Bus tour to Agrarian Ales, a Breezer commuter bike and rafting trips down the McKenzie. To be eligible to win, alternative commute trips must be logged at CommuteChallenge.org by 5 p.m. Monday, May 23.

A slew of fun events for participants are scheduled throughout the competition, including:

  • Monday, May 16, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Eugene Poker Walkabout
  • Tuesday, May 17, 7 – 9:30 a.m.: Bicycle & Pedestrian Breakfast at DeFazio Bridge
  • Wednesday, May 18, from 6:30 – 9 a.m.: Transit Breakfast at Eugene Station
  • Thursday, May 19, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Springfield Poker Walkabout
  • Friday, May 20, from 4 – 6 p.m.: Bicycle & Pedestrian Treats at Aspen & D River Path

Sign-ups are available CommuteChallenge.org. The BCC is managed by Lane Transit District’s Point2point Program, and sponsored by PacificSource Health Plans, Burley, Arriving By Bike, Pauls’ Bicycle Way of Life, the City of Eugene and the City of Springfield.
